The large-format, high-quality, and exquisitely produced Hungarian-language volume Protected Vascular Plants of Hungary will soon be published by the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen, in co-edition with the Hungarian Natural History Museum.
The book provides detailed descriptions of 683 protected plant species (including 70 orchid species). Each taxon is illustrated with 1–5 colour high quality photographs, and its distribution in Hungary is shown on a detailed map.
The
introductory chapters give an overview of the history of flora conservation in
Hungary, the nomenclature used in the book, and the sources of distribution
data. Further chapters present the main threats to our protected plant species,
their natural pathogens and herbivores, flower-visiting and pollinating
insects, their human-created (secondary) habitats, and national efforts made to
preserve the flora. The volume concludes with a detailed index of names.
